Welcome Note
Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) is a German Political Foundation working in Kenya since 1974 to promote and consolidate the tenets of democracy. The process demands that the citizens of Kenya, the civil society, political parties and other stakeholders are all involved in the process of building democracy.
With a focus on political education in Germany and with projects in over 120 countries, KAS Kenya in partnership with Good karma fiction produced a film titled Chaguo – Love*Deceit*Politics. The overall objective of the film is to edutain the Kenyan youth and society in general on the importance of participating in politics and more so elections.
It is our hope that the film will provoke some positive thoughts and attitude change towards participating in political processes. Elections are regarded as the ultimate democratic exercise, the youth being the majority making about 75% of the population in Kenya, their vote would ultimately contribute to the desired political change.
We hope you enjoy the film and may it inspire you to participate in the democratic transformation of your nation.

LOGLINE
A looming election causes a rift between Wendo and Mugeni, a young couple from embattled tribes who are plunged into a chaotic fight for their love.
SYNOPSIS
Wendo Juma and Mugeni Magero, a young engaged couple, are our modern day African Juliet and Romeo. They come from two different tribes. The two major tribes of our unnamed African country who have been switching power between them since independence.
Mugeni comes from a wealthy family with a ruthless political legacy. Due to past misdeeds by his family because of politics, Mugeni has tried to distance himself from politics as much as he
can.
Wendo is an apolitical PR manager who works for Mathew Kowa, a young political activist who refuses to fuel his campaign with tribalistic aspects and strongly believes in a change in the political status quo. Wendo joined Kowa’s campaign as a regular job but then his message manages to come through and she starts to believe in his cause.
Through clever PR strategies, Wendo manages to make the new aspirant Kowa more and more popular with voters and a threat to the incumbent MP Njama Magero. Njama, who actually thought his election victory was already secure, starts putting pressure on Wendo to turn her back on Kowa. When Wendo refuses, Njama blackmails his nephew Mugeni, which in turn puts a strain on Wendo and Mugeni’s relationship and the two lovers suddenly find themselves opposing each other on different sides of the political spectrum. Will Wendo and Mugeni find each other again in the course of the increasingly heated and dirty election campaign?
CREATOR’S NOTE:
MODERN AFRICA, STRONG MAIN CHARACTERS, GRIPPING DRAMATURGY
Narratives on young Africans that reach outside of the continent are usually about war, hardship and poverty.
Our story shows another face of young Africans who exist in our modern technological world with access to everything a young adult in the western world has access to.
Their lives are complex and rich and their problems are unique to their society. Their lived lives have just as much right to contribute to the tapestry of human existence as any other found outside Africa.
This approach is bundled in the two sympathetic main characters Wendo & Mugeni. They stand for young Africans who – with their visionary, self-confident and politically emancipated way of life – automatically come into conflict with religious, family and tribal traditions.
Wendo and Mugeni will have to fight for their way of life, their political independence and last but not least, for their love.
Will this great couple succeed or fail? … Posed right at the beginning, this question creates a maelstrom that keeps the audience gripped until the surprising end.
